In the early 1950's, William Petrie, Gord Petrie's father, started Wm. Petrie & Sons Inc. Gord worked for his father and in 1982 Gord started Wm. Petrie and Sons Contracting, specializing in excavation work.
In 1988, Gord amalgamated the two companies into Wm. Petrie and Sons Contracting (1988) Ltd and Gord built 740 Weller Court in Oakville as his home for the newly named construction company. By 2015 his company had grown to 30 employees and offered construction services and equipment from bobcats to track excavators and tri-axle trucks.
Gord expanded his business over the years and started additional businesses including Can Crete Mobile Mix, Petrie's Quality Topsoil and AG Disposal.
Gord took great pride in his business and it showed in the loyalty of both his employees and customers alike since 1988. Customers always commented on how "the big red trucks were always clean and the rims were shiny". He became well known in the community for his kind and fair way of doing business. He supported and sponsored many teams and charities in the area over the years.
When Gord passed away November 2014, Susan, his wife and business partner, with the support and loyalty of all his employees, decided to not close the doors. She is resolved to continue to serve his customers, with the same degree of professionalism, to maintain his loyalty to his employees and carry on with the same beliefs and passion he had for not only his business but for life in general.
Susan sold Can Crete and Petrie's Quality Topsoil to Gord's partner and kept Wm. Petrie and Sons Contracting and AG Disposal operating.
